Celebration of International Biodiversity Day

International Biodiversity Day is celebrated every year on 22nd May for increasing understanding and awareness about the importance, role and issues concerning biodiversity amongst the stakeholders of biodiversity from different walks of life and conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity on the earth.

Celebrating International Biodiversity Day every year affirms our resolve and reflects on our responsibility to safeguard the precious heritage of bio-resources for future generations on the earth. The theme for celebration of International Biodiversity Day this year is “From Agreement to Action: Build back Biodiversity”. 

On this occasion the School of Agricultural Sciences, GD Goenka University, Sohna also celebrated the International Biodiversity Day on 22nd May 2023 at Crop Cafeteria, Agricultural Farm. Approx 35 students and all thefaculties member of SOAS, few faculty members from others school like
SOMAS, SOES, were also present in this event. 

While addressing the participants Dr. S. S. Tomar, Dean, SOAS highlighted the importance of celebration of International Biodiversity Day and need for conservation, sustainable utilization of the bio-resources. He highlighted about the importance of biodiversity on earth and stressed the
need for utilization of the bio-resources on sustainable basis and conservation of biodiversity and help in further degradation of the habitat for checking/ controlling the extinction of threatened bio-resources. Various activities like:

A) Plantation of Trees
b) Student rally’s
was organized for awareness of building back of Bio diversity. Different slogans like biodiversity is Life, Biodiversity starts in the distance past and it points towards the future prepared by
students to create awareness for the community.
