The lecture started with explaining the previously launched schemes by the government, such as the promotion of Jan Dhan Accounts (which are zero balance accounts) and the income disclosure scheme etc which formed the base for the demonetization move by the government. Thus the process of demonetization was not a hasty decision though it turned to be mismanaged. The reasons which led to demonetization were highlighted, which were, firstly, to infuse money in the banking system, secondly to reduce terrorism by reducing fake currency and finally to shut the parallel economy of black money.
