Symposium and Hands-on Training on Molecular Biology Techniques,

Department of Basic and Applied Sciences (Biological Sciences), School of Engineering Sciences (SoES), GD Goenka University (GDGU), Haryana, India organized Symposium and Hand-on Training on Molecular Biology Techniques for Biological Sciences Postgraduate and Undergraduate students with Acharya Narendra Dev College (ANDC), University of Delhi (DU), New Delhi from 11 th -13 th Oct, 2022.

Symposium was conducted online on the first day in GDGU to provide conceptual knowledge to the students followed by two days hands-on-training at ANDC, DU. Four resource persons were invited from DUto deliver talk for the students of Biotechnology and Microbiology. The first speaker was Prof. (Dr.) Rup Lal, INSA Senior Scientist, ANDC College, DU, who delivered a talk on & Current Applications of Biotechnology in a Multi-Disciplinary Approach". Prof. (Dr.) Sukanya Lal (Ramjas College, DU) delivered a talk on "An Introduction to the International Microbiology Literacy Initiative (IMiLI)". Two speakers from Deen Dayal Upadhaya College, DU., Dr. Renu Solanki, Assistant Professor and Dr. Shailly Anand, Assistant Professor, delivered talk on "Basic and Advanced Concepts of Molecular Biology" and An Introduction to the International Microbiology Literacy Initiative (IMiLI)", respectively.

On second and third days (12 th and 13 th Oct2022), students were made aware of the basic scientific concepts related to each experiment to be performed. Each student performed different experiments such as preparation of competent cells and transformation, mitosis of onion root tip, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), restriction mapping, plasmid DNA isolation, and gel electrophoresis. On the third day, students also visited different research laboratories of ANDC such asMushroom Cultivation Lab, Entomology Lab, Microbial Technologies Lab, Ciliates Lab, and Virology Lab. Overall, it was a highly informative and wonderful outreach event for the students of biological science.
