UNDERSTANDING THE HEART AND CORONA

To know the often unknown, School of Medical and Allied Sciences, G D Goenka University organized a Live Webinar ‘Corona and the Heart (What People need to Know)’ on August 29, 2020. The speaker for the session was prominent Cardiologist Dr. Amit Bhushan Sharma, Associate Director and Unit Head Cardiology, Paras Hospital, Gurugram. Dr. Bhushan escalated the session with insightful knowledge about the intricacies involving the functioning of a healthy human heart. An analytical and all-encompassing explanation of the dependence and inter-dependence between ‘Heart and Corona’ was enumerated by Dr. Bhushan. He acutely explained how the Heart gets affected by the Covid-19 infection, contrary to the popular belief that only lungs suffer the maximum. Dr. Bhushan with his keen perception and benefiting wisdom deliberated that the patients affected by Corona should look out for cardiac symptoms like chest pain, palpitations, weakness and others, as these could dominantly signify involvement of the Heart. Towards the end of the session, Dr. Bhushan discussed some far-sighted tips on how people can keep their heart healthy in such testing and troubling times. A live demonstration of some useful equipments for monitoring the Heart was also given to reiterate the need of carefully ‘crafting’ a healthy heart for our own selves. It is indeed an ‘art’ to live healthy and stay healthy, and Dr. Amit Bhushan, while answering all the unsettled doubts, without a second doubt, etched life-long wisdom in audience’s minds for their individual journey towards a Healthy Heart!
