World Bread Day and International Chefs Day were celebrated at Le Cordon Bleu School of hospitality, GD Goenka University recently. The students of PGDCAM (Post Graduate Diploma in Culinary Arts Management) and Food Production Faculty displayed their culinary skills of bread baking on 20th October 2016. No matter how you slice it, breads and chefs are an important part of nearly every culture, race and religion around the world.

The students prepared breads from seven countries, showcasing five breads from each country. There was a lavish display of breads with delectable dips in B Block lobby, wherein all students and faculty of the University was invited to sample the wares. Prof. (Dr.) Deependra Kumar Jha, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, G D Goenka University and Dr. Nitesh Bansal, Registrar, G D Goenka University inaugurated the display along with the Guests of Honour.

The main aim of celebrating International Chef Day is to make hospitality people and particularly aspiring professionals aware of how the career of a Chef is an adventurous journey and a successful one.

The guest of honour for the occasion was Chef Om Nayak, a restauranteer and entrepreneur; and Mr Eric Dutta, Director, Digital Education, Le Cordon Bleu, India. The event started with a welcome address by Dr. Y G Tharakan, Dean, Le Cordon Bleu School of Hospitality. He spoke about the significance of the day for all hospitality professionals, congratulating all the students who took part in making this day a successful one.

Chef Om then gave the students a brief description about his own journey in the hospitality industry as a chef and even mentioned that being a chef is not as easy as one thinks and even pointed out that for being a chef entrepreneur, one should first have passion and self confidence and then other factors follow. Mr. Eric Dutta shared his life experiences, emphasising the fact that it is important for students to focus on what they do.

Overall it was a wonderful event showcasing of breads from 7 countries such as Italy, U.K, Spain, Germany, the Middle East, France and U.S.A.
