The Union Budget is analyzed by the students of B.A. (honors) Economics of the School of Humanities and Social Science, every year. This time it was presented by the students of 1st year in the form of debate and discussion. This session was open to all, where students and faculties from various disciplines such as English, Sociology, and Political Science joined.
The students started with the reasons behind the rescheduling of the budget this year to 1st Feb, 2017 and discuss the agenda of the session as “Transform, Energize and Clean India”
The students critically analyzed the various areas on which the budget focused including the Tax administration, prudent fiscal policy, abolishing of the classification of plan and unplanned expenditure, increased allocation under MNREGA, introduction of the annual learning outcomes in schools, government focus on the SWAYAM platform, strengthening the system of social security, health care and affordable housing, among others. The session was followed by a detailed discussion among students and faculties. Also, areas which the budget did not focus on were identified and discussed on.
