A workshop on PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design was organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DEEE) of School of Engineering, GD Goenka University on 28th April 2015. The participants of the workshop included senior secondary (12th grade) pupils and engineering students. The workshop was conducted free of cost as no Registration Fee was charged from the participants. Students from St. Crispins Sr. Sec. School Gurgaon, Sh. S.N. Sidheshwar Sr. Sec. Public School Gurgaon, DITMR College Faridabad, KR Mangalam University and GD Goenka University were among the participants of the workshop.
The workshop focused on the basics of PCB designing tools. Students used Express PCB tool and completed three activities based on PCB designing. This tool is a free tool which can be used for PCB designing and for prototyping purpose in both single layer format and double layer format. The same tool can be used for designing the schematic layout of the circuit which can be then converted into an equivalent PCB design. At the end, students successfully completed their PCB designs. After the session on design, the participants were taught PCB fabrication process and the steps involved in PCB designing and testing of circuits. Further these designed circuits were printed on the copper clads for the fabrication process.
At the end of the workshop, an evaluation was done to find out the best PCB designer based on the criteria like area optimization, routing algorithms, component orientations and time taken to complete an activity etc. In the next month, GD Goenka University will organize a series of workshops in electronics engineering domain for the aspiring/budding engineers.
