Seminar on “Various Testing Methods for Gold”

School of Basic & Applied Sciences at GD Goenka University organized a seminar by Mr. Pankaj Deshmukh from Precision Metal Assay & training Institute on 09th October, 2019 on “Various testing methods for gold”. Mr. Deshmukh has more than 16 years of experience in assaying and examination of precious metals and alloys. He is responsible for the training and technical operations of various purity verification centers of MMTC-PAMP throughout country and also he is representing organization on BIS-committee responsible for standard preparation for metallic division.


All students of B.Sc. (H) Chemistry, B.SC. (H) Physics, M.Sc. Chemistry & M.Sc. Physics attended this seminar. The main objective of the seminar is to provide training, standardization and promoting best practices for gold and precious metal industry. Also to provide learning opportunities, acquiring new techniques by upgrading existing skills. Dr. Deshmukh gave introduction to properties of metals especially gold. He explained various assaying methods like Touchstone method, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Technique, Fire Assay Technique (Cupellation) and discussed comparison among these methods. He also discussed various carrier opportunities for Metal Assayer and unique features of PMATI and courses offered for training & internship.
