On a bright sunny day we were filled with joy when we were told about the event ‘Sportopia’. It was held on the 20th and 21st of November, 2014 though the preparations started a month earlier. Students came from different universities for this event. School of Humanities and Social Science took charge for the game of squash. It was a good opportunity to learn how to organize events at a university level.

The main focus in the beginning for us was to publicize the event. We did this by pasting the posters all around the university block and the hostel. We also spread the word to our friends around the college and outside. We were eager to finish our lectures quickly as there was so much to do. Our program coordinator came and informed us that we need to regroup outside the faculty lounge.

We were all really excited and also happy as it was a fun activity scheduled in our busy day. We along with our faculty and coordinator started with the bright Sportopia pamphlets that we needed to stick throughout the university campus. We were split into different groups responsible for different areas for sticking the pamphlets covering the entire university. We were all ready with the tapes and scissors and were happy about a walkthrough the university.

During all this our teachers did not just give us the entire burden but were with us on their toes on the sunny day. We ended up sticking them at the required areas, after doing that we were divided into different teams. Some of us were sent to different universities to make our event popular in other universities too. The very next step after the exciting venture was to make arrangements like preparing the squash court, seeing if the lightings were enough for the players, if the court had proper boundaries, arranging the required rackets and balls, scoring boards, chairs for the players, etc.

After all the hard work the main day finally came for which we were eagerly waiting. Once the games had started there was a lot of enthusiasm from the players’ side for each other and the game. All the volunteers were extremely busy scoring and spectating as well as in giving out participation certificates. All the matches went really smoothly. The matches finished on time and everyone worked efficiently and with immense enthusiasm towards the same. All the players played really well with a supporting attitude towards each other. We all are now looking forward to SPORTOPIA 2015!
