Workshop on “Scientific Writing”

School of Basic & applied Sciences organized a one day workshop on 10th October 2019 on scientific writing. The workshop was held with an objective to provide the students overall flavour of studying, documenting and presenting any scientific work. It focused on the basic aspects like word PowerPoint and excel along with introduction of advanced tools such as origin, Mendeley and endnote, etc. the prime participants were the masters of sciences students, the future scientist.

The session commenced with an important introduction about the research journals, methodology of writing a research journal, importance of formatting and proper presentation of scientific information by Dr. Himanshu Arora. It preceded with a session on systematic and effective literature review and understanding of writing proper bibliography with help of tools such as Mendeley and Endnote.  The session was conducted by Dr. Bintendra Mongal followed by brief interaction, presentation skills of scientific work is equally important in portraying the scientific finding, a brief interactive session on such presentation and speaking skills was conducted by Dr. Dikshi Gupta which included presenting scientific work by paper presentation, poster presentation and oral presentation. The morning session ended with a dynamic motivational address by the dean school of Basic and Applied Sciences on the importance of such workshop. It was followed by an extensive hands on session of ‘Excel’ by Dr. Naresh Sharma The students were finally given an demo with hands on session on popular software ‘origin’ which enables the plotting of all types of 2D graph and graphical fitting by Dr. Soumita Talukdar. Finally the workshop was conducted with a vote of thanks by the Coordinators Dr. Privanka Sharma and Dr. Soumita Talukdar.
