26th November has always been a day of historic importance not just for a person in legal profession, but also, for any citizen of India. On this day, we celebrate the Constitution Day or the Samvidhan Divas to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. School of Law holds this day to be of great importance, and it became even more significant when Sr (Adv) Mr. Ram Jethmalani had preceded the event as the Chief Guest for the celebrations. Mr. Ram Jethmalani, is a man who needs no introduction. He is the most renowned legal practitioner in the nation, and has assumed office of the Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. He has been the counsel for innumerable high profile cases with enormous diversity. With extensive experience, Sir has been the face of the legal field for decades now. He has represented a sweep of cases from the high-profile to the most controversial one and holds immense knowledge in various arenas of law, especially, Criminal.
Mr. Nipun Goenka( Managing Director, GD Goenka Group), Mr. Rohit Gujral, (Director, GD Goenka Group), Prof. Dr. Suku Bhaskaran,(President, GD Goenka University), Prof. Dr. S. Shantakumar (Pro Vice Chancellor, GD Goenka University) and Deans of various Schools, Faculty members and students were immensely grateful to have witnessed Mr. Jethmalani interact with them.
He urged the students to look past religious differences at every point. He also mentioned that all religions should unite to fight any odds and represent the country as one. He told us how law students should have the vigour to study law and take law to new heights. Our chief guest had various anecdotes to share and ended the address by reminding us that legal knowledge is useful for any democracy.
Students thoroughly enjoyed listening to him and were really driven to take a leap into the legal world. He patiently answered each question posed to him, with a touch of humour and brought the auditorium to life.
