Report on the Intercollegiate Debate Competition at GD Goenka University
On November 6, 2024, GD Goenka University hosted an intellectually stimulating Intercollegiate Debate Competition, bringing together some of the brightest minds to discuss pressing global issues. Organized by the university’s School of Management, the event provided a platform for participants to demonstrate their analytical thinking, persuasive communication, and depth of understanding on critical global topics.
The debate tackled two highly relevant themes: “International Trade Wars: Threat or Opportunity?” and “The Ethical Dilemma of Outsourcing in Developing Countries.” These thought-provoking topics encouraged participants to delve into the complexities of international economics and ethics, offering diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that arise in our interconnected world.
The event was skillfully anchored by Dimpy Khatri, whose seamless moderation ensured a smooth flow of arguments and rebuttals. The judging panel included esteemed faculty members, Mr. Hameed Zaini and Dr. Girish Ahuja, who brought their expertise and keen observation to evaluate the participants’ arguments, presentation, and overall delivery.
The competition witnessed vibrant discussions, with participants passionately presenting their viewpoints, countering opposing arguments, and offering innovative solutions to the challenges discussed. Their performances reflected a high level of research, critical thinking, and an ability to engage with complex global issues.
After a series of dynamic rounds, the winners were announced:
• 1st Place: Yanshik Khatri, who impressed with a compelling argument and an exceptional delivery style.
• 2nd Place: Maliako Mokobori, whose well-researched insights and confidence stood out.
• 3rd Place: Isha Agrawal, recognized for her articulate expression and logical reasoning.
The event was a resounding success, offering participants a unique opportunity to hone their debating skills while deepening their understanding of globalization’s economic and ethical dimensions. The audience, comprising students and faculty, applauded the participants’ dedication and the valuable insights shared during the event.
