National Youth Day

The NSS unit marked National Youth Day with an enthusiastic organization of the live telecast of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech during the inauguration of the 27th National Youth Festival in Nasik, Maharashtra, on 12 January 2024.  The day also saw the organization of a compelling debate competition on the theme "Robots vs Human Workers: Which is better?". The event saw active participation from 30 students. The event garnered significant interest, with over 70 students actively participating in the audience, fostering a dynamic atmosphere for intellectual exchange and exploration of the intriguing topic.

Donation Drive

The Alumni & NSS unit of GD Goenka University joined forces during a two-week donation drive for woollen clothes, uniting for this noble cause. Contributions received during the drive were collected and handed over to Harmony House, our NGO partner for the Alumni Meet, on January 18, 2024. Additionally, the students interacted with the children at the shelter, spreading cheer throughout.

Yuvamanthan MUN

The NSS unit of GD Goenka University organized Yuvamanthan MUN themed on India @2047 with the sub-theme 'Lifestyle for Environment.' The event took place in the GRG Moot Court Hall on 20 January 2024, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students across disciplines. They assumed the persona of their favorite politicians, engaging in insightful debates and a healthy exchange of ideas, exploring the given topic.
The MUN was conducted under the aegis of the All India Political Party Meet (AIPPM) committee, presided over by the chair and the executive board. Various ideas were proposed, but the most notable and widely discussed one focused on innovative solutions for the future. A spirited debate on the necessity of guiding the country towards innovation ensued.
The event concluded with the recognition of three delegates who received awards for Best Delegate, High Commendation, and Special Mention. Aayush Bharadwaj, BA LLB, 5th Year, Batch 2019-2024, School of Law, received the Best Delegate award. Akshay Singh Antal, B.Tech ME, 4th Year, Batch 2020-2024, School of Engineering & Sciences, was honored with the High Commendation award, and Dia Solanki, BAJMC, 2nd Year, Batch 2022-2025, received the Special Mention award.

National Voters Day

The NSS Unit of GD Goenka University in collaboration with the Electoral Club organized a workshop on the Electoral Process to commemorate the National Voters Day, as also 75 years of the Election Commission of India on 25 January 2024. The workshop was facilitated by officials from the Election Commission of India as also dignitaries from the Haryana Administration which included IAS Mr. Hitesh Kumar Meena, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram & Mr. Gaurav Singh, Additional Chief Executive Officer, District Gurugram. The theme for this Voters Day, ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’, truly resonated through the workshop which saw enthusiastic participation by students as they interacted with the officials. The day also saw a live demo of the EVM Machines and a dispelling of myths surrounding the process, which served as further encouragement to the participating audiences.

Republic Day

GD Goenka University celebrated with great gusto the 75th Republic Day of India on 26 January 2024. The atmosphere was rife with a spirit of patriotism as the National Flag of India was hoisted by the Dean Student Welfare & International Relations, Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Kaushik in the presence of dignitaries from the University administration and student volunteers from the BSA and the NSS unit of GD Goenka University. The flag hoisting was followed with a speech by Dr. Kaushik, who shared words of wisdom regarding the significance of this day and the implementation of the Indian constitution that this day marks. The day saw cultural performances by Reverie, the Dance Club, of BSA Techno-Cultural. The celebrations came to an end with the distribution of sweets.

Martyr’s Day

The NSS Unit of GD Goenka University observed Martyr’s Day with a spirited celebration on 31 January 2024 that saw a blend of cultural and experiential learning. The events began with a patriotic flute rendition by talented NSS volunteers which gave an apt start to the events of the day. The event then proceeded with a speech competition exploring the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi. It was an engaging learning experience as young girls and boys engaged once again in understanding the values and ethics that is the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. The atmosphere was rife with a sense of nationhood as young minds paid homage to martyrs. The event was judged by Dr. Dakshita Sangwan, Assistant Professor, School of Law and saw Utkarsh Amrit, LLB (Hons), Batch 2023-2026, School of Law emerge winner for his spirited speech, followed by Mir Areiba, Forensic Sciences, Batch 2021-2024, School of Engineering & Sciences at the second place and Boyapati Pujitha Chowdary, BBA LLB, Batch 2021-2026, School of Law at the third place.

World NGO Day

The NSS Unit of GD Goenka University observed World NGO Day on 27 February 2024 in collaboration with Navjyoti India Foundation in an event themed around water, sanitation and hygiene in Ghamroj. In a collective display of unity and service to the community the team raised awareness around the theme of “Empowerment through Education and Creativity on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene”, taking a spirited rally through the village, meeting the local population, raising awareness on hygiene and understanding the concerns of the local populace regarding water issues. The team also interacted with the women in the village, understanding their concerns. A selected group of volunteers met children engaging them in interaction and informing them of basic hygiene processes. The team also donated hygiene related personal and professional items to the Navjyoti India Foundation. The events of the day were a true reflection of the selfless service to nation that characterises the NSS.

International Women’s Day

The NSS unit of GD Goenka University organized a panel discussion on March 8, 2024, themed "Women in Business: Advantages, Challenges & Opportunities." The event featured a TED talk by Sheryl Sandberg on "Why we have too few women leaders," sparking a lively discussion among students on the unique challenges women face in the corporate world. The students also brainstormed ways to address these challenges, reflecting on the existence of glass ceilings and highlighting successful women entrepreneurs. The event's enthusiastic participation showcased a path forward, offering an enlightening experience that encouraged students to delve deeper into the complexities of social structures and gender barriers.

Blood Donation Camp

The NSS Unit of GD Goenka University organized a Blood Donation Camp on 20 March 2024 in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society. The Red Cross Society was headed by Dr. Parv Kalra and a team of medical attendants. The camp saw enthusiastic participation by students, faculties and staff who came forward to donate for the noble cause in large numbers. The camp saw the collection of a record number of 84 units of blood. The NSS volunteers were felicitated with a certificate of appreciation by the Red Cross Society for their dedication and hard work. The event is co-related to UN SDG Goal 3, Good Health & Well Being.

Drug Awareness Workshop

The Proctorial Board, in collaboration with the NSS Unit and the Student Council, organized an awareness session on the harmful effects of drugs on 5 April 2024. Resource persons for the event included Shri Dilip Robidas, Assistant Director, and Shri Hardeep, Superintendent, from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi Zone. They addressed the students on the harmful effects of drugs on the body and mind, reasons for the increase in youth drug consumption, signs of abuse, and the economic and psychological costs. They also discussed solutions to combat drug abuse as a society and individually. The session concluded with a Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs pledge.

World Earth Day

The NSS Unit of GD Goenka University marked World Earth Day on 22 April 2024 with a unique initiative that saw them repurposing old, used plastic containers to make colorful water feeders for birds. Groups of volunteers sat down to make a working model out of plastic bottles which were then placed on tree branches and filled with water. The initiative truly resonated with the theme of World Earth Day this year, ‘Plastics vs Planet’. Through the mindful activity, the NSS Unit truly showed their duty and understanding towards the planet and their world.
