Introduction:
Lakshmi Surya is a Fashion Designer with strong design and technical skill sets. She has good experience in mentoring students to create new design concepts. Her optimistic and result driven nature helps in creating proven results. She has taught subjects like Pattern Making, Draping, Garment Construction, Sustainable Fashion Practices, Design Process, Advanced Surface Design techniques & Advanced Digital Illustration techniques at Alliance University- Bangalore & Pearl Academy.
Lakshmi Surya is an award-winning alumnus from NIFT. She holds a Master’s degree in Design Research [M.Des] from NIFT, New Delhi 2018 and Bachelors in Fashion & Design [B.Des] from NIFT, Chennai 2007. She was the topper in both and holds All India Rank 1 during entrance exam for NIFT in the year 2016.
Lakshmi Surya’s current research interests are focused on the field of fashion and sustainability. With SDG 12(Responsible consumption & production) as main focal point, Lakshmi Surya’s research work identifies issues, opportunities & threats involved in the fashion supply chain. She uses system thinking & design thinking approach in conducting her research work.
She has presented a webinar on Consuming Values: A critical analysis of values and motivation behind sustainable fashion consumption and life satisfaction post Covid 19, [16 May 2020] as part of GD Goenka UP learn Academy webinar series.
She is also empanelled as design consultant with DC Handicrafts, Ministry of textiles, Government of India.
