REACH 2020

With promising faith and determined minds, School of Medical and Allied Sciences, GD Goenka University, Gurugram organized their 3rd Annual Conference, REACH -2020 on 14th March, 2020. The Conference was aimed to disseminate knowledge and diverse deliberations amongst huge pool of audience predominantly focusing on the theme ‘Evolution of Healthcare in Aerospace’. REACH 2020 REACH 2020 was envisioned to discuss the evolution of health care of crew members and frequent flyers in aerospace before and after long flights by providing rehabilitation, ergonomic support, Nutritional diets and medicinal support. Despite many advancements in the space research (health hazards associated with aerospace), this discursive topic still thrives as a contested field of continuous research for the potent scientific community. Hence, the conference aimed to wholesomely deliberate on the most recent innovations, trends, speculations and practical challenges encountered, alongside the solutions adopted in domain of Healthcare in Aerospace.

Dr. Aijaaz Ashai, HOD – Physiotherapy, Adams Wylie Physio Rehab Centre, Indian Red Cross Society, Mumbai, Group Captain Dr. Sandeep Arora, Professor & Head of Dermatology, Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore, Dr. Pravin Kumar Verma, Senior Consultant in Aviation Medicine& Medical Administration, Medanta- The Medicity, (deputed) at IGI Airport, New Delhi and Dr. A.K. Madan, Professor, Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences were the eminent and venerated guests of the event. The event started with their welcome address, in which they miraculously motivated and inspired the audience for their nurturing future, while rendering comprehensive knowledge about the dynamics and idiosyncrasies of Healthcare in Aerospace.

A Workshop on Ergonomics, as a prequel to REACH 2020 was beautifully held on 13th March, 2020 which marked the gracious presence of our esteemed and superlative dignitaries, the chief guest of the event was Dr. A.K. Agarwal, President, Delhi Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, the Guests of Honor were Dr. Dhananjay Gupta, President, Delhi Orthopedic Association and Dr. Aijaz Ashai, Head of the Department- Adams Wylie Physio Rehab Centre, IRCS, Mumbai. The prominent Resource Persons for the event were Dr. Deepankar Dass, Ergonomics and Wellness coach, Max Hospital, Delhi and Dr. Anjum Padyal, certified NLP Practitioner. Our Guests harmoniously inspired the students with their pearls of wisdom for becoming a valuable physiotherapist with powers of healing and goodwill in their journey ahead through the highly enriching workshop.

REACH 2020 witnessed some immensely stimulating sessions, the first one was on ‘Role of Dermatology in Aerospace Medicine’ effectively delivered by Dr. Sandeep Arora. He briefly enumerated the various skin challenges faced by the Astronauts, and its dangerous impact on Human Health. A Technical Session on ‘Flight and its effects on Human Body’ was delivered by Dr. Pravin Kumar Verma , where he settled many unsettled doubts about this interesting topic, as many myths and generalizations tend to rupture our understanding of the effects of Flight on human health.

A fun and informative activity was conducted by Space India, Delhi, where everyone widened their learning with fun- filled activities.  A Panel Discussion on ‘Healthcare in Aerospace’ was held, which was moderated by Mr. Kuldeep Chauhan, who is a Senior Project Leader, Medanta the Medicity. The prominent panelists were, Dr. Gajendra Singh – Professor & Dean, Pt. BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak , Dr. Deepankar Das – Ergonomics and Wellness coach, Max Hospital, Delhi, Dr. Kunjan Kumar Sharma – Medical Consultant, Clinical Associate, Medanta- The Medicity, Gurugram and Ms. Ishi Khosla, Clinical Nutritionist, IDK Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

A wide pool of students and faculty members participated in the conference and accelerated the joyous spirit of the event. There were about 100 Posters and 50 Oral Presentations in the Poster Making Competition and Oral Presentations respectively, each poster and oral presentation displayed commendable insight and understanding of the conference theme by our delegates. The winners of both the categories were awarded cash prizes. REACH, 2020 culminated with an enthralling solo and Group dance performances by our students. The journey of REACH 2020 might have come to end, but its spirit and cherished memory will last forever.
