THE ‘RED PROMISE’: KNOW AIDS, NO TO AIDS!

Nelson Mandela poignantly puts it-“Give a child love, laughter and peace- not AIDS.” To extend solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV worldwide, every year December 1st is celebrated as the World AIDS Day. Celebrating and resolutely encouraging the unwavering fight against the deadly enemy HIV, School of Medical and Allied Sciences, GD Goenka University organized a Webinar today.

The session was organized in collaboration with Public Health Foundation of India, and the prominent Guest speakers were at their maximum best! Dr. Mukut Bhowmik, M.B.B.S, Fellow in HIV Medicine & Post, Senior Programme Manager at PHFI-NACO-TSU Add. and Mr. Jitender Kumar Pandey, Medical Microbiologist at TE-Lan & Blood Transfusion Services, UK disseminated more fundamental knowledge about AIDS and its nature of complex varieties to enrich our audience. ‘Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility’ being the theme for World AIDS Day, 2020 attempts to amplify the concerns surrounding AIDS and calls for an urgent need to prioritize the vulnerable across communities and countries.

Dr. Mukut skillfully rendered tactile knowledge about AIDS’ structural characteristics, dynamic basics, classification of virus, treatment and other substantially imperative strands. Some prevalent myths and misconceptions encircling HIV were concretely debunked by Dr. Mukut to ‘open’ wide-rational eyes of everyone listening. The modes of HIV transmission were discussed to understand the other deeper and elusive characteristics of HIV. The testing of HIV and its diagnosis was discussed by Mr. Jitender with precise knowledge and clarity.

While the session majorly broadened the scope of understanding AIDS, eliminating stigma and discrimination, putting people at the core and grounding our responses in human rights can be the key to end the devastating epidemic of HIV. Joining hands in keeping a ‘Red’ promise, let’s pledge to fight this battle with our strongest armor for a healthier and AIDS- free future
