B.Des. (Hons.) Communication Design
The Design (Hons) in Communication Design at UID equips students to tackle real-world problems through visual communication, storytelling, and human-centric digital experiences across diverse social and cultural contexts.
The four-year programme blends hands-on making, critical thinking, and AI-enabled tools, preparing designers for responsible work in print, screen, motion, and spatial media.
It progresses from foundational skills in drawing, typography, image making, composition, and visual narratives to advanced studios in branding, publication, information design, motion graphics, and interactive communication. Core elements include research methods, design strategy, user studies, prototyping, and ethical AI use for insights, content variation, and intelligent interfaces.
Program Specialisation
The objective of this programme is to nurture a strong creative aptitude with empathetic sensibilities, by developing a socio-culturally aware, community-centric and environment-conscious attitude towards problem-solving. It is to also develop a robust and adaptable technological competency for futuristic design practices and strong decisive representation and communication abilities. It is an intensive program emphasizing visual problem-solving, organizational skills, and information theory. The curriculum covers the various verticals of Communication Design viz. typography, design for print and publication, wayfinding and signages, branding & identity design, packaging design, motion design, socially relevant design, UX and UI design, design for the social sector, game design, advertising etc. Given the broad scope of the program the students are also introduced to art, culture, social aspects and design history along with new media design environments and domains like AI, AR-VR-XR, Haptics, Experiential Design.
Curriculum Details
The curriculum covers a comprehensive range of communication design domains, including typography, print and publication design, branding, packaging, UX/UI, and motion design. Students gain exposure to socially relevant design, game design, and advertising, while also exploring new media such as AI, AR-VR-XR, and experiential design. By integrating research methodologies, user needs, and design theory, students learn to create impactful solutions across print, screen, and physical spaces.
