Program Structure

The Ph.D. in Psychology at GD Goenka University is a full-time/part-time research-intensive program conducted in two key phases:

Coursework Phase

As per UGC regulations, scholars must complete coursework for a duration of 6 months to one year, including training in research methodology, research ethics, and domain-specific inquiry. Upon successful completion, candidates move to the research phase.

Research Phase

Following approval of the research proposal by the SRAC (Scholar’s Research Advisory Committee) candidates engage in supervised original research. Regular progress evaluations, academic publications, and final thesis submission form key milestones during this phase.

Admission Process

  • Notification: Admission announcements are published on the official GD Goenka University website and other public platforms.
  • Entrance Examination: Eligible candidates must qualify the university-level Ph.D. Entrance Test followed by a personal interview. The test evaluates research aptitude, subject knowledge, and analytical ability.
  • Note: Candidates with valid UGC-NET/JRF/GATE may be exempted from the entrance test, subject to university norms.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates are required to present a preliminary research proposal and discuss their research interests with the panel.

Supervision and Research Support

Each scholar is assigned a research supervisor from the university’s faculty based on alignment of research interests. Where necessary, co-supervisors (Internal/external) may be appointed for interdisciplinary or specialized guidance.

The university supports research through:

Evaluation and Award of Degree

The Ph.D. degree is awarded upon fulfillment of the following requirements:

  • Completion of Minimum of 5 SRACs with original and substantial research work
  • Minimum two publications in peer-reviewed/Scopus/ABDC/Web of Science indexed journals
  • Successful presentation in Practice pre-submission seminar and pre-submission Seminar
  • Plagiarism clearance and submission of final thesis
  • Positive evaluation by external examiners and successful defense in the viva voce examination
