On 7th April 2026, M. Pharm. students from the Department of Pharmacy, School of Healthcare and Allied Sciences, participated in an industrial visit to the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) under the guidance of Dr. Rubina Bhutani and Dr. Sapna Joshi. The visit proved to be highly informative and enriching.
The session commenced with an interaction with the Director, Dr. P. L. Sahu, who provided valuable insights into the role of NDTL as India’s premier anti-doping laboratory. He highlighted its adherence to international standards and its contribution to ensuring fairness in sports through accurate detection of prohibited substances. He also emphasized the importance of ethics, discipline, and scientific precision.
Students were then introduced to various laboratory sections, including sample receiving, quality management, and sample processing units. The Quality Management Section highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards through quality assurance and quality control practices in compliance with international guidelines, in the presence of Dr. Anandrajan T. Key techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis were demonstrated. Exposure to advanced instruments like GC-MS and LC-MS enhanced students’ understanding of modern analytical methods. The visit also included the biological section and EPO testing laboratory, where specialized procedures for doping analysis were explained.
Overall, the visit provided valuable practical exposure to advanced laboratory practices, quality systems, and regulatory frameworks, thereby strengthening students’ understanding of pharmaceutical and forensic applications.
