The Faculty Think Tank of the School of Law organized an insightful discussion session on 28 February 2026 on the topic, “From Tariffs to Trust: A New Era for India–US Relations Amidst the 2026 Trade Deal.” The session aimed to analyze the evolving economic and strategic partnership between India and the United States in light of the recently proposed trade developments and their broader geopolitical implications.

The discussion was led by the distinguished discussants, Mr. Afeef Abdul Kader and Mr. Tushar Sharma, who provided a comprehensive understanding of the changing dynamics in India–US bilateral relations. The session highlighted how the 2026 trade deal signifies a transition from traditional tariff-based negotiations to a relationship built on mutual trust, strategic cooperation, and economic collaboration.

The discussants explored various dimensions of the trade agreement, including market access, digital trade, technology transfer, supply chain resilience, and investment opportunities. Special emphasis was laid on the potential benefits of the agreement for India’s economic growth, employment generation, and global trade positioning. The speakers also discussed the challenges associated with balancing domestic economic interests while strengthening international partnerships.

The session encouraged faculty members and participants to critically examine the role of international trade agreements in shaping foreign policy and global governance. The deliberations also reflected upon the broader strategic partnership between India and the United States in areas such as defense cooperation, innovation, climate initiatives, and regional security.

The discussion proved to be highly engaging and intellectually stimulating, fostering meaningful dialogue among participants on contemporary international economic issues. The event successfully fulfilled the objectives of the Faculty Think Tank by promoting academic discourse, policy-oriented analysis, and informed understanding of current global developments affecting India’s international relations and trade policies.
