Urban & Peri-Urban Horticulture: Innovative Greening Approaches for Sustainable Cities
A two-day workshop on “Urban & Peri-Urban Horticulture: Innovative Greening Approaches for Sustainable Cities” was successfully organized by the School of Agricultural Sciences (SoAS) with the participation of over 100 UG, PG, and Ph.D. students from agriculture and allied disciplines. The programme commenced at 11:00 AM with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by guest felicitation by the Dean, SoAS, and Head of Agronomy, Prof. Amarnath Singh, who highlighted the importance of urban horticulture in the context of rapid urbanization. On the first day, Prof. Umesh Thapa (Professor, Department of Vegetable Crops & Former Director of Extension Education, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), West Bengal) delivered an expert lecture on cost-effective hydroponics and soilless cultivation for vertical gardens and urban horticulture, followed by an interactive session, with participation in both offline and online (Google Meet) modes. The second day featured Dr. Kunal Adhikary, who conducted a session on advanced landscaping concepts and 5D Planner applications for sustainable urban landscape design. The workshop was highly appreciated by participants and resource persons, reinforcing the significance of innovative and sustainable greening approaches for urban development.
