Workshop on Basic Molecular Techniques
Organized by - GD Goenka University, Haryana
Date - 2 Feb 2026
The Department of Basic and Applied Sciences, School of Engineering and Sciences (SoES), in collaboration with the School of Agricultural Sciences (SoAS), successfully organized a one-day workshop titled “Basic Molecular Techniques” on 02 February 2026 at GD Goenka University. The workshop was conducted at the B-Block Auditorium and Laboratory B217 and aimed at enhancing students’ theoretical understanding and practical exposure to fundamental molecular biology techniques.
The workshop commenced with an inaugural session, wherein the importance of molecular techniques in modern biological research, diagnostics, and industry was emphasized. The event featured expert sessions by Dr. Archana Dayal, Director, Zenomix BioLab Pvt. Ltd., who delivered an insightful offline lecture focusing on industry expectations, career opportunities in biological sciences, and the application of molecular tools in research and biotechnology industries. Her session effectively bridged the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
The second session was delivered online by Dr. Pushpender Kumar Sharma, Amity University, Jaipur, who elaborated on the principles and applications of basic and advanced molecular techniques. He provided detailed explanations on DNA extraction, quantification methods, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR), highlighting their significance in research and diagnostics. The third expert session, conducted online by Dr. Sonia Kumari Shishodia, UIBT, Chandigarh University, focused on gel electrophoresis, DNA visualization, DNA ligation, and bacterial transformation, offering valuable insights into experimental design and laboratory best practices.
A dedicated hands-on session was organized in Laboratory B217, where participants gained practical exposure to selected molecular techniques. This session significantly enhanced the participants’ conceptual clarity, laboratory skills, and confidence in handling molecular biology experiments.
The workshop was thoughtfully coordinated by Dr. Arpita Sharma (SoAS), Dr. Raunak Dhanker (SoES), and Dr. Anil Kumar (SoES) under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Shiv Singh Tomar, Dean, SoAS; Prof. (Dr.) Thammi Reddy Konala, Dean, SoES; and Prof. Naresh Sharma, Head, DBAS. The event was graced by faculty members from both schools, whose presence and support contributed to the overall success of the workshop. The workshop proved to be highly beneficial for students by strengthening their academic foundation and practical competence in molecular biology.
