Can Interior Design Save the World? – A Masterclass with Madhav Raman
On the occasion of World Design Day, the Interior & Furniture Design and Product Design departments hosted inspiring masterclasses by Amardeep Behl and Madhav Raman. The sessions explored how design can create meaningful human experiences through space, storytelling, sustainability, and cultural sensitivity.
Amardeep Behl shared how his studio, Design Habit, transforms architectural spaces into immersive environments through collaborations with artists and artisans across India. His lecture highlighted the importance of storytelling, materiality, and experiential design in shaping engaging spaces.
Madhav Raman focused on conservation, adaptive reuse, and context-driven design practices. He emphasized enhancing existing spaces while preserving their identity, emotion, and cultural value. Through his projects, students understood the importance of thoughtful interventions, local materials, and sustainable approaches in design.
Together, the lectures encouraged students to critically reflect on the relationship between design, people, culture, and the environment, inspiring more responsible and empathetic design practices.
