Overview of Research Group:
Our research group is focused on developing innovative materials and therapeutic strategies by leveraging the principles of molecular self-assembly and green chemistry. Our work is primarily centered on three key areas: photosensitive peptides, sustainable nanoparticle synthesis, and novel cancer therapies.
Photosensitive Peptides and Self-Assembly
We explore how light can be used to control the behavior of photosensitive peptides. These molecules can change their shape and properties when exposed to light, allowing us to precisely direct their self-assembly into complex nanostructures. A key focus is on using symmetrical covalent linkers to enhance the peptides' flexibility and responsiveness to external stimuli, such as light, temperature, and pH. The resulting materials have tunable properties, making them promising for applications in the bio-nano field. Additionally, we are investigating the potential of these photoactive molecules for the early detection of diseases like Alzheimer's.
Greener and Biogenic Synthesis of Nanoparticles
Our group is committed to developing environmentally friendly methods for creating nanoparticles. We use biogenic materials, such as leaf extracts, to act as scaffolds for nanoparticle formation. This sustainable approach avoids the harsh chemicals and energy-intensive processes of traditional synthesis. Our goal is to create a wide range of nanoparticles with diverse applications, including catalysis, drug delivery, and sensing, all while minimizing environmental impact.
Plinabulin Derivatives for Cancer Therapy and Detection
We are actively synthesizing photoactive derivatives of Plinabulin, a compound known for its promise in treating cancer, particularly lung cancer. By making these derivatives responsive to light, we can achieve highly targeted and precise therapeutic effects. This research aims to combine both cancer therapy and early detection into a single, light-activated molecule. Our ultimate goal is to develop a novel approach to lung cancer treatment and diagnosis that is both effective and non-invasive.
