Stanley James

Stanley James is an academic whose work focuses on financial systemic risk, macro-prudential policy, and climate-related financial vulnerabilities. His work applies quantitative and empirical methods — including network analysis and textual analysis — to policy-relevant questions of financial stability, with a particular focus on the Indian financial system.

His doctoral thesis, “An empirical analysis of systemic risk in the Indian financial system,” examined the systemic importance of shadow banks and network-based approaches to measuring systemic risk. His research has been published in Scopus-indexed journals and presented at international and national conferences, including the East Asian Economic Association Convention. His ongoing work investigates the effects of macro-prudential policy and climate risk on systemic risk.

Prior to joining GD Goenka University, he has worked for Andhra Pradesh Government’s capacity-building programme ‘Swarna Andhra Mission’ to train officers on strategies to improve Gross Value Added (GVA) at the district level, supporting district-level economic planning through GVA estimation, KPI monitoring, and policy research.

At GD Goenka University, Dr James teaches graduate and postgraduate courses in Managerial Economics, International Trade Theory, and Design Thinking, alongside mentoring student research projects.
